Job requirements
Position overview
The Unity Senior Developer is the technical cornerstone of the Squla Junior team — a senior Unity engineer with cross-stack awareness who balances future vision with lean, iterative delivery. They co-create the product alongside design and product, ensuring every decision is grounded in both user needs and technical reality. They set the technical direction within Unity, translate product needs into scalable solutions, and anticipate future challenges without over-engineering. Their focus is on building just enough to learn fast, planning and scoping realistically, and keeping every tech decision aligned with the child’s experience and the parent’s trust.
Hard Skills (Technical & Product Vision)
Unity expertise: Deep knowledge of architecture, optimization, addressables, and scalable systems for content-heavy games. Plus is if you are able to show your own app releases.
Content data: Experience structuring, managing, and optimizing data for efficient content pipelines.
Cross-stack awareness: Basic knowledge of backend (Python, AWS) and frontend/web development to guide trade-offs and avoid pitfalls. Has worked with API integrations.
Product-technical translation: Turns product and design ideas into clean, scalable technical solutions.
Lean, iterative builder: Builds just enough to learn fast; avoids over-engineering while keeping options open for future growth.
Planning & scoping: Breaks down work realistically, manages dependencies, and gives clear, reliable estimates.
AI mindset: Identifies safe, practical uses of AI (content pipelines, QA, personalization) without compromising child safety or consistency.
Quality focus: Ensures smooth performance, bug resistance, and maintainability across devices. Experience with structured development processes, incl. build and test automation and version control;
Tools & automation: Pushes for internal tools that let designers and educators create and manage content without dev bottlenecks.
Soft Skills (Collaboration & Mindset)
Visionary but pragmatic: Anticipates future problems and solutions, but keeps the focus on today’s priorities.
Strong communicator: Explains trade-offs clearly to both devs and non-technical stakeholders.
Collaborative partner: Listens across Unity, backend, web, UX, and product, and aligns needs into coherent solutions.
Mentorship mindset: Shares expertise with peers, supports juniors, and contributes to architectural discussions.
Iterative mindset: Works in short, testable cycles and adapts based on feedback and results.
User-first mindset: Keeps kids’ joy and parents’ trust at the center of technical decisions.
Co-creator: Actively contributes to shaping the product in the triad, not just implementing features.
