Your role

As a psychometrician, you will use your knowledge of psychological methods to improve our (adaptive) learning environment. On the one hand, you will support the content team by analyzing play data of hundreds of thousands of users answering +/- 1.7 million questions per day, and deriving actionable insights on (for example) the appropriate difficulty level of the content, the engagement impact of different question types, and how to determine content mastery for our learners. On the other hand, you will be responsible for improving the adaptive algorithm, making suggestions for improvements based on analyses, and supporting the product and engineering teams with implementing these suggestions.

In your role you are responsible for identifying and prioritizing areas in need of improvement, executing the required analyses, and providing the relevant stakeholders with actionable advice. When necessary, you will also design and execute experiments on the platform, possibly in collaboration with other parties. You are also expected to keep track of the research frontier in computerized adaptive testing, and incorporate new techniques when relevant.


Your tasks

  • Making analyses-based suggestions for the improvement of new and existing content;
  • Continuously improve the adaptive algorithm;
  • Collaborate with other teams to provide actionable research insights;
  • Define, prepare, execute, and interpret the results of research experiments;
  • Keep track of the research frontier in computerized adaptive testing

Job requirements

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced and pragmatic researcher with a passion for education. 

Furthermore, you have:

  • A Master degree or PhD in psychometrics/psychological methods;
  • Experience with data analysis using a scripting language (e.g. R or python);
  • Experience with independently designing, executing, and reporting (experimental) research;
  • Experience working with relational databases (e.g. MySQL);
  • Above average analytical and communication skills;
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written;


Apart from that, it would be nice if you have:

  • Experience with data visualisation (e.g. ggplot);
  • Product development experience / working in a product development environment;
  • Worked with primary school children;
