Team Squla believe that learning is daring to make mistakes, keep trying.  We aim to stimulate a childs learning experience through playing and having fun with our platform.  Using our plaform, children can play and practice all school subjects using the best quizzes and games!  The material has been developed by eduaction experts, in line with the Dutch education system.  Using our online parent account, parents can track their childrens results in a weekly report, keeping them informed of their childs process.  We believe in empowering children through personalised education, and what better platform to use!  To find out more, you can check out

What are you going to do as our Backend Developer?

Currently, we have a team of 12 developers people working on our platform, building new cool features for children, parents and children. Joining this experienced and growing team will provide you with a great opportunity to work with a super talented group ofindividuals, bringing fresh perspectives on how to automate new components, brainstorming new features, review code and more!   Whether you are utilising the team's existing knowledge, or showcasing your own talents/interests in development, everyday there is an opportunity to learn something new.  For the position, we offer a salary of 50,000 - 60,000euros a year + additional benefits.

Please note that for this position, we cannot accept applicants outside of the EU as we do not provide Visa Sponsorship.

Your typical daily tasks will include (but certainly not be limited to):

  • Building new features from the ground up 
  • Fixing Jenkins builds if they're broken 
  • Monitoring our application
  • Debug in our microservice jungle
  • Contribute to the brainstorming of new features, and ways to automate things

Job requirements

Who are you?

You are passionate about making the education world a better place for children, and know your way around the development space, bringing experience, and fresh knowledge to the table. We also consider the following to be important: 

  • The ability to apply common design patterns, write clean and maintainable code

  • Computer science fundamentals, experience with relational databases, automated tests

  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal

  • Be nice to your colleagues

  • And if you are familiar with Python, AWS, HTML5 games and/ or Ruby (on Rails) and GCP. Or working Agile, that’s even better (but not required)
